I really enjoyed this fun children’s book and I believe your children will too!
How Pete met Lizard makes for a great bedtime story. It is full of interesting plot twists which all young minds will appreciate.
I was delighted with how the author uses sound and movement to convey the joy of being alive. Ms Furstenberg plants some lovely ideas into her readers’ heads like how running through long grass is a bit like swimming; well, for an elephant it is!
She also reminds us of the simple pleasures in life – stepping on dry leaves in autumn and how they might tickle an elephant’s feet.
We are also reminded of how important friendships are, and that we might find them in the most unlikely of places. These are important messages for children of any age (and, perhaps some adults too!).
Animals play an important role
One bonus of this book is the characters are animals. From an educator’s perspective this is quite important. whether you are a teacher or a parent you’ll appreciate that not all children are the same. Boys vs girls, children of different ethnic backgrounds and cultures – all need to read about children similar to themselves.
By using animals as the main characters, this author is offering every child who reads it the opportunity to identify with the issues they face and how they are resolved.
I think this book would make a valuable addition to your child’s library.
